Flip-a-Tyrant! is now out on Android. The free-to-play satirical arcade game from one-person studio Antisthenes is currently available in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
It’s what the name suggests
The entire premise in Flip-a-Tyrant! is flipping cartoon dictators off a stage before they get the chance to turn the town square into their personal propaganda machine. The game has a bunch of fictional tyrant types popping out of holes in a field and making a mad dash towards a stage.
You have to tap them away before they get there. Letting one through means dealing with their entire entourage and watching them take over the bully pulpit. That entourage can include bodyguards, secret police, motorcades, backup dancers, cultist followers, bears, and banners plastered with political slogans.
The lineup includes the Propagandist, the Rebel Leader, the People’s Colonel, El Presidente, and Il Bombasto. They’re all invented characters, not portraits of actual people, and none of the flags belong to real countries.
Gameplay in Flip-a-Tyrant! starts with a campaign that takes 30 levels, after which you can keep going and see how long you survive. There are three difficulty settings, Easy, Normal, and Hard. Things get increasingly chaotic as security guards and bears start getting in the way.
But you can apply certain tricks in Flip-a-Tyrant!
You can flip tyrants away with quick taps, unleash a BIG WAVE! to clear the entire screen. You can also throw out Slow-Snow when the crowd gets overwhelming. Or grab a Shield to protect yourself. There’s also a shooting star that grants an extra life.
It’s all just to poke fun at the general breed of power-hungry men who think the world revolves around them. The tyrants are the joke here. The people aren’t. So, check the game out on the Google Play Store.
Flip-a-Tyrant! was made with AI tools, despite coming from a studio run by someone who isn’t a programmer. Despite that, I think it’s worth giving a try as there’s some real creativity involved with the theme and the gameplay.
